the story
About Chinchilla
Chinchilla was admitted after being found buoyant at the surface and unable to dive. On intake examination, a wound was identified on the carapace. Radiographs confirmed a spinal fracture associated with this wound, as well as abnormal gas accumulation within the gastrointestinal tract, contributing to persistent positive buoyancy.

Rescue
Chinchilla was found struggling at the surface, unable to dive due to a carapace injury. Upon intake, bloodwork revealed clear signs of starvation, indicating they had been unable to dive and forage for some time.

Diagnose
Radiographs revealed a spinal injury and several rib fractures. The pattern of damage suggests blunt force trauma, though the more circular shape makes it unclear whether the injury was caused by a boat strike.

Care
Chinchilla’s treatment included several medical modalities, including physical therapy, medications, cold laser therapy, topical honey for wound management, and a carefully balanced nutritional plan to support recovery.

Fun Fact
Chinchilla was named after a favorite singer/artist of one of our team members.
